Basic income guarantee meeting set for April 5 in Berwick

A group of concerned Annapolis Valley residents believe the time has come for a basic income guarantee.

They have joined forces to host an information session April 5 in Berwick to explain the concept and look for ways to spread the message. The idea would see individuals earning a low income receive money from government to meet their basic needs and live with dignity, regardless of their work status.

“So, no matter whether you’re working or not working, there is an income floor,” said Becca Green-LaPierre, a member of the Annapolis Valley Community Food Council. “Right now, Canada has lots of social safety nets, but nets have holes. And a lot of people are falling through the holes.”
