The Government has today (26 May) published a new report on the impact of the Basic Income for the Arts (BIA) pilot scheme, which has been running since September 2022. The report shows that the BIA has ‘significantly’ reduced financial anxiety for recipients and increased time for creative work. Participants also reported various other positive effects, such as more autonomy and a sense of validation in their creative profession.
Written by independent social research consultant Dr Jenny Dagg, the report is based on interviews with 52 recipients – 14 from the visual arts, 8 from music, 8 from film, 8 from multi-disciplinary arts, 6 from theatre, 5 from literature, and one from street arts.
