Kingston council motion calls for guaranteed basic income program

City council is to consider a motion calling on all three levels of government to work together to establish a basic income to address “to combat poverty, income inequality and economic insecurity.”

The motion from Collins-Bayridge District Coun. Lisa Osanic and Williamsville District Coun. Vincent Cinanni calls on the city, provincial and federal governments to work together to establish a program for members of the community most in need.

A motion to council points to success of the Ontario pilot project with “improvements in the physical and mental health, labour market participation, food security, housing stability and financial and social well being of pilot participants.”
