I’m involved with Basic Income Guelph (BIG) and a member of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW Guelph) and in both roles I see how deeply economic insecurity affects women in our community. We talk about gender-based violence, the wage gap and women’s leadership. But we don’t always talk about money. Money matters.
Many women remain in unsafe relationships because they cannot afford to leave. Many single mothers work multiple jobs and still struggle to cover basic costs. Many caregivers, whose unpaid work sustains families and communities are left financially vulnerable.
