Deputy Cahill Welcomes Minister O’Donovan’s ‘Basic Income For Artists’ Announcement

Maine Valley Post

Deputy Michael Cahill has welcomed the announcement by Minister Patrick O’Donovan, the Minister with responsibility for the Arts that he will be extending the Basic Income for Artist Pilot Scheme, by six months.

“There has been very clear evidence that this scheme has been hugely successful in assisting artists, in being more productive and advancing their careers, while reducing the precarious income and stress associated with this sector” said the Kerry TD.

“I submitted a Parliamentary Question to the Minister on this very issue and I am pleased with his response” said Deputy Cahill.

While the Minister is working on a successor to this pilot scheme, for Budget 2026, Deputy Cahill will be calling on him, to ensure that this successor programme, will expand on and build on, the very successful pilot programme, to support a wider community of artist and finally give recognition and financial security that this important sector in County Kerry deserves.
